I came to Hawaiian Recon rather unexpectedly. In fact, I'm not really there yet. I will be more so when I start taking Hawaiiana classes in school (in Spring 2008). But I've made the choice, and that is the first step.
Some may argue that Hawaiian religion can't be called reconstructionism because it still exists. Fair enough. However, a lot has been lost over the years, and instead of just taking what's still around, I plan on reconstructing as much of that lost information as I can in my work as a Hawaii recon. I don't mean to be disrespectful at all, and don't mean to say that my version of Hawaiian beliefs is "better" or "more complete" than current indigenous traditions being practiced. I'm just calling it recon because I think it fits better than any other title could.
I don't have much more to say right now, as I have just come to this decision and plan on studying a lot more before I write any sort of articles. But this is a good start.
Aloha nui loa,
